G-A Learning Plan Through January 2021
GACS
Tuesday, December 08, 2020

The following is the District's plan for reopening and virtual learning through December and January.  Please understand that we are doing our best to provide as much face to face learning when possible, and balance that with the data of community spread and hospital capacity in Kalamazoo County.

For Pre K – 7th grades, face to face classes will resume Monday, December 7th as planned in the hybrid model for two weeks until the winter break.  We are committed to utilizing our mitigation strategies faithfully. This will give our younger students a chance for two weeks of social emotional support and face to face academic instruction.  We strongly urge and request that you follow the CDC guidelines next week:  if members of your family have been with others outside your immediate family since Thanksgiving celebrations, please keep your students quarantined at home and have them learn virtually.  Additionally, we understand and support families if they would feel more comfortable keeping their students home during the surge in cases and increase in test positivity rates.  We ask that you let the school office know if you are choosing to do so.

Grades 8-12th will continue to learn virtually until the holiday break.  By planning this way, we will not be waiting for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services decision, which we do not know when that will occur.   All extracurricular programs will continue to be suspended until after the winter break.

We will use the same philosophy as we did for the week after Thanksgiving.  Pre K-12th will learn virtually the week after the winter break, January 4 - 8th.  The additional week allows an additional 7-10 days to quarantine after the holiday gatherings, while still learning virtually.

We will offer daycare January 4 - 8th at the Primary School for a reduced rate of $20 per day.  Please contact the director, Jillian Turner at 269-484-2075 for more information about childcare.

Face to face learning will resume for all Pre K – 12th students in the hybrid model on Monday, January 11, 2021.

We know that for some this is frustrating and difficult.  We hope that by the spring, we will no longer need school closures for any reason.

Thank you for supporting our learners at home and communicating with your building administrators and teachers with your questions and concerns.
